Dear Parent/Guardian
Christmas Show
We would like to thank all parents for their support of the Christmas Show. It was once again a tremendous success financially making a profit of £1,001.70 which has been forwarded to Concern for their Syrian Appeal.
Parents’ Association
A huge thank you to the Parents’ Association for organising the Carol Service and Nativity Play in St Joseph’s Chapel raising a total of £558.26 and for their Christmas Raffle which raised £340.
Allergies / Medical Needs
A number of children within the school are allergic to nuts and or eggs. As an anaphylactic reaction to these foods can be potentially life threatening we ask that all parents ensure that no nut products (e.g. Kinder eggs/ bars) or egg (such as egg sandwiches) be brought into the school.
To lessen the risk of choking please do not send hard lollies (e.g. Chupa Chups ) into school and ensure grapes are cut into halves.
Johnny Burke Fleadh – Saturday 25 March 2017

Pupils will also have an opportunity to enter an art and poetry recital competition which will be judged in the school on Tuesday 28 February. Anyone who wishes to enter their child to play a traditional instrument or to sing a song in Irish should contact Mrs McGill or Mr Rafferty.

Froganna Froganna beaga deasa, Froganna beaga buí, Froganna beaga glasa, Is a mamaí ina luí.
Daidí frog ina sheasamh, Is bata ina láimh, Ag múineadh do na páistí, cad é an dóigh le snámh.

Neilí Tá Neilí bheag ag caoineadh Tá tinneas ina ceann "Rith go dtí an dochtúir Agus féach an bhfuil sé ann!”
"Brostaigh ort a dhoctúir, Tá Neilí ina luí. Beir leigheas leat sa mhála – Úll mór is piorra buí!” |

Éirígí, A Pháistí Éirígí, a pháistí! Amach linn faoin aer; Tá an ghrian gheal ag taitneamh, Níl scamall sa spéir.
Tá gaoth bhog ag séideadh Thar cnoc agus gleann, Tá duilleoga ag damhsa Ar sceach is ar chrann.
Tá úlla is sméara Go tiubh ar gach craobh, Tá bláthanna geala Ag fás ar gach taobh.
Éirígí, a pháistí! Amach linn faoin aer Chun aoibhneas a bhaint As an áilleacht go léir.

Bábóg Shíle Tá bábóg ag Síle Is í gléasta go deas Faoi ghúna breá síoda Agus cóta beag glas. Is aoibhinn le Síle Í a chur ina suí Is a gruaig geal a chíoradh Sula dtéann sí a luí. Tá cion mór ag Síle Ar a bábóigín féin; Codlaíonn siad le chéile Gach oíche den bhliain |

Paitsín Ó, tá mo chroí briste Faoi scamall is brón Mar chaill mé mo mhadra Amuigh ar an ród.
Níor mhadra go dtí é, É beag agus deas, Ba chuma leis báisteach, Nó sneachta nó teas. Bhí cion aige ormsa Is grá agam dó Ní raibh madra chomh breá leis Ag aon duine beo. |
Ach, d’fhan sé sa tsráid, lá, Nuair a rith mé isteach, Is ní fhaca mé Paitsín Ón lá sin amach.
Ó, thabharfainn aon airgead, Idir gheal agus bhuí, Don duine a gheobhadh dom Paitsín mo chroí. Lionard Ó hAnnaidh |

Sinne Fianna Fáil
A tá fé gheall ag Éirinn,

Thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
Fé mhóid bheith saor.

Ní fhagfar fé'n tiorán ná fé'n tráil
Anocht a théam sa bhearna bhaoil,

Le guna screach fé lámhach na bpiléar

The NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe.programme is visiting our school to make sure our pupils have the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse.
I’m pleased to tell you that we will be working with the NSPCC, the UK’s leading children’s charity, who’ll be delivering their Speak out. Stay safe. programme on 3 April. This is a nationwide programme for every primary-school-aged child in the UK and Channel Islands. With the help of their friendly mascot Buddy, they’ll be presenting an assembly and workshop to the children in our school.
"NSPCC has helped me to build the confidence to tell people about my worries and problems." Child’s feedback
What is the Speak out. Stay safe. programme?
Through child-friendly, interactive assemblies and workshops their specially trained staff and volunteers will give our children information about how to keep themselves safe from harm and how to get help if they have any worries.
We have studied the content of the materials and are extremely confident that they are appropriate for primary-school-aged children. By the end of their visit, we’re convinced children will feel empowered – knowing how they can speak out and stay safe.
"This service provides important information in a child-friendly way – it should be made mandatory in all schools. A brilliant service!" Teacher, Wistaston Primary, Crewe
If you would like any more information about the NSPCC Speak out. Stay safe. programme, including frequently asked questions, you can find it on the NSPCC website nspcc.org.uk/schoolsor please come into speak to me and I can provide more information.
Talking about the Underwear Rule with your children
The NSPCC’s work in schools will help encourage conversations about staying safe – and they have a number of child-friendly materials to help you carry on the conversation afterwards. That includes ‘The Underwear Rule’, a simple way for parents to help keep children safe – without using scary words.
The guide uses the rules of PANTS to teach children that their body belongs to them and them alone. You can find out more and download the free resources at nspcc.org.uk/pants
If you’d like to know more about the NSPCC’s work, or take a look at the wide range of information and advice which is available for parents and carers, please visit their website nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/
